LEOGANG World Cup #3

And it’s again under the rain and in the mud that the third world cup in Leogang Austria would be. It was a new destination on the world cup cicuit. The track was long, technically and physically demanding, plus under the rain it was a slaughter.

The team arrived tuesday and walked the track on wednesday to conclude that the weekend would be demanding. Fabien decided to skip de 4X and to concentrate on the DH. Soon it was thursday and the team did the first trainnings. What they thought while they walked down the track was true, it wouldn’t be easy but they were ready to do it.

Saturday came really fast. The day started under de rain and it would be the same for the qualifications. Florent and Fabien secured their place to the sunday finals. With a 63 and 65th place, our rider would have to give all they could the next day to be sure to well represent. They then walked down the track one more time to locate the fastest lines.

On sunday morning, day of the finals, the weather was the same. Some snow was even visible on the highest peak of the mountain. A big thanks to Stéphane our mechanic who probably took 100 kilos of mud out of our bikes all weekend. It was soon 2pm and the beginning of the finals. Florent did all he could and finished 33rd, which puts him 27th on the general ranking. On Fabien’s side, after avoiding a fall, he finished 62nd.

These results are far from beiing the best, it shows once again that in sport everything doesn’t go your way all the time. One thing is sure, Florent and Fabien are determined to show their real potential, this only belongs to them since they have the best equipment to succeed.

After folding the stand, the road was long before returning home after 2 months away. Florent, Fabien and Stéphane will just have time to benefit of a quick week of rest before hitting the second part of the season : Méga of Alpe d’Huez, France championship, Champéry and Val Di Sole.

Et c’est une fois de plus sous la pluie et dans la boue que cette troisième coupe du monde s’est déroulée à Leogang en Autriche. Une nouvelle destination sur le circuit de la coupe du monde. La piste était longue, difficile autant techniquement que physiquement et avec la pluie, tout simplement un carnage.

Le Team est arrivé mardi pour une reconnaissance de la piste le mercredi pour en conclure que le weekend allait être exigeant. Fabien décide trés tôt de ne pas participer au 4X et de se concentrer sur la Descente. Déjà jeudi et le team fait les premières recos. Ce que le team avait évalué lors de la descente à pieds s’avère vrai.. La course va être difficile mais la motivation est à bloc.

Samedi, réveil sous la pluie et la qualification de même. Florent et Fabien assurent alors leurs places pour la finale de dimanche. Avec une 63 et 65ième place, nos riders vont devoir tout donner pour pouvoir bien représenter. Une nouvelle reco de lapiste s’impose pour repérer les lignes les plus rapides du tracé.

La température du dimanche matin, journée des finales, est glaciale. La neige est même présente au sommet de la montagne. Un grand merci a Stéphane notre mécano pour avoir nettoyé au moins 100kg de boue sur nos vélos tout au long du weekend. 14h00 sonnait et donc le début des finales. Florent donne tout ce qu’il a pour terminer au 33ième rang, ce qui le place maintenant au 27ième rang du général. Du côté de Fabien, après avoir évité une chute de justesse, il termine 62ième.

Ces résultats sont loins d’être extraordinaires mais cela montre encore une fois qu’en sport tout ne se passe pas comme prévu. Une chose est sure, Florent et Fabien restent déterminés a montrer leur vrai potentiel et cela ne tient qu’à eux car ils ont dans leurs mains le meilleur matériel pour réussir.

Après avoir plié les tentes, la route fut longue pour le retour à la maison que le team avait quitté 2 mois plus tôt. Florent, Fabien et Stéphane auront juste le temps de profiter d’une courte semaine de repos avant d’attaquer à fond la deuxième partie de la saison avec les prochaines courses : la Mégavalanche de l’Alpe d’huez, les championnats de France, Champéry et Val Di Sole.
